Homeschooling is the fastest growing
education alternative in the country today. Families
today are deciding to homeschool their children for
a variety of reasons unique as each family is unto
themselves.
And it's working. College admission
panels are more and more accepting home schooled
children. And not just the smaller and local
community colleges, today many of the major colleges
are not only admitting but even recruiting home
schooled children by attending homeschooling events
and seminars.
Parents that begin
homeschooling soon discover that when it comes to homeschooling, one
size doesn't fit all..... in fact, one size, probably doesn't even fit all
their own kids. But this is one of the beauties of homeschooling and
that is the flexibility and the ability for the parent to tailor the
child's education in a way that best suites the child and they
flourish!
Many parents recreate
the classroom setting at home and engage in a homeschooling program
that, on the surface, closely resembles that of traditional schooling.
Many parents don't. They let the learning experience be driven by the
child's natural interest in things then provide the environment that
best fits the interest. With the parents acting as a facilitator to the
child's interest and saturating them with subject matter this is
commonly known as the ‘unschooling' methodology.
The point is they
both work and so does just about any other type of homeschooling in
between. And with the educational technology that exists today, there
are homeschool software packages and complete homeschool curriculum packages that include everything from K-12. The internet today offers
all kinds of online homeschooling opportunities with everything from the
supplies you need to the people you need to talk with via the forums and
homeschool groups.
In short, most
homeschoolers use a wide variety of resources to complete their child's
homeschooling education. Using an eclectic approach to utilizing all the
homeschool resources available allows the parent to apply those
homeschool resources that best fit the child's strengths and improve
upon their weaknesses.
