Why Homeschool
Why Homeschool? Quite frankly, from an academic perspective there are many very good reasons to home school your children. The statistics keep coming in, however, it has become increasingly more documented that home schooled children actually do better than public and even private schools. For some of those in academia this surprises. Although, I don't know why; it has long been proven that individual tutoring has always been the most effective teaching method. There are those that would debate that even with the benefit of the one on one instruction that homeschooling provides, the lack of (perceived) socialization provided by a homeschooling environment negates this benefit. Well, the state of socialization in the public school system and the ‘socialized' peer groups that now roam the halls of these schools is a topic that can really get me going... but, I won't for now; other than to point out that so much of the ‘socialization' that today's public schools offer children is actually quite deleterious to their well being and psyche. Many is the time, that us parents (homeschooling or otherwise) have to spend time with our children in attempts to undo the ‘socialization' process that public schools inflict... offer.
And what about the role family plays in a child's foundation? Is this available via the public school? Hardly. I think any home schooling family will testify that the family bonding that takes place between parents and children in the home school environment is one of the greatest benefits of all. Parents grow closer to their children and siblings grow closer to each other as a result of all of the shared time spent together in an environment of love and respect. This natural bond that develops and strengthens over time is a formidable force against all of the family fragmentation that permeates our society. And lastly, but certainly not least, is the aspect of spirituality. Quite simply put; homeschooling families prosper greatly in this personal area. As a parent you can set the path for your children both spiritually and morally according to your beliefs.Combine just these few points and wrap them around a parent's natural love for Lastly, I want to let you in on a neat little very affordable e-book that I came across a while back and have been meaning to let you know about it. The name of it is "Homeschool? YES, You Can!" It's by Paul and Gena Suarez, the publishers of the The Old Schoolhouse Magazine. It's an easy and great read; with some from the heart writings that really help you understand like so many of us... that yes you can homeschool. Let me know what you think of it. All the
best to you!
